You’re driving home from work when all of a sudden you find yourself in a car accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cites more than six million car accidents every year, and 40,000 people die annually. While some injuries are minor, many are serious and can lead to death. Common injuries include neck injuries, spinal cord injuries, broken bones and head and brain injuries. Our Illinois auto insurance company wants to make sure you stay safe on the roads.
What to Do After an Accident
If you’ve been in a serious accident, once the accident is over, try not to move, as you may make injuries worse. Assess and address your own injuries before helping other people in the car. Wiggle your fingers and toes, move your hands and feet and notice whether or not you have a headache. Once you have addressed your own situation and whether or not you are okay, tend to other passengers in the car to see if they are okay. Once the police arrive at the scene, feel free to request an ambulance if you think it is necessary; keep in mind not all injuries show up immediately.
Be a Safe Driver
Make sure you are taking the necessary steps to be both a safe driver and a safe passenger. Keep distractions to a minimum, don’t play the radio too loud and always wear a seatbelt.
Utilize our Illinois auto insurance to ensure you are covered if you’re in an accident.
