Disclaimer: Accurate Auto Insurance is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to United Auto Insurance, Eagle Insurance or Great Northern Insurance in any way. United Auto Insurance is an independent, competing business, and all names and marks referenced on this page belong to their respective owners. This page is published for informational purposes so Illinois drivers can shop with confidence, and it reflects publicly available information at the time of writing. Coverage options, rates, and locations change, so please confirm details directly with each company. If you are currently insured through United Auto Insurance, we will do everything we can to beat your rate on comparable coverage.
Switch and Save: United Auto Insurance to Accurate Auto Insurance
Insured with United Auto Insurance and wondering if you are paying too much? Send us your policy. We will shop it against our carriers, show you the difference in writing, and handle the switch — including your SR-22 — so there is never a gap.
United Auto Insurance has been a fixture in Chicago since 1979, and their commercials have been running about that long. Accurate Auto Insurance has been writing Illinois policies since 1992 for many of the same drivers: SR-22 filings, suspended or revoked licenses, tickets, accidents, no prior insurance, and people who need proof of coverage today. But there is a real structural difference between the two, and it is worth understanding before you renew.
The difference that actually matters
United Auto Insurance describes itself as an insurance company — on their own About page, they trace their history from a one-room insurance company to the operation they run now. Their Eagle Insurance and Great Northern Insurance storefronts are part of that same family. That is a legitimate way to run a business, and it is why their name is on the building. But it means that when you get a quote from United, you are getting one company’s price for your record.
Accurate Auto Insurance is an independent agency. We do not have a product of our own to protect, so we shop your record across a network of carriers and place you with whichever one prices it best. On a clean record the gap between those two approaches is often small. On a non-standard record — an SR-22, a DUI, a lapse, a stack of tickets — carriers disagree with each other enormously about what you are worth. That disagreement is where the savings live, and you only capture it if someone is shopping.
Why drivers switch to Accurate
One price, or the whole market
- United quotes United — and Eagle and Great Northern are the same family
- We have no product of our own to defend, so we shop your record across carriers
- Carriers disagree most on the records United specializes in
Statewide, not just Chicagoland
- Eight Illinois offices: Oak Brook, Rockford, Peoria, Elgin, Joliet, South Holland, Oak Lawn and Chicago
- United serves Chicago, Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana
- We also write in Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Mississippi and Pennsylvania — leaving the state does not mean starting over
We re-shop your renewal
- Most non-standard policies get quoted once and then quietly renew
- We re-run your rate as tickets and accidents age off your record
- We will tell you when we cannot beat your current price
How to switch in three steps
STEP ONE
Send us your declarations page
It is the page listing your coverage limits. Photograph it and text or email it over. This is how we match your coverage exactly instead of quoting you something thinner and calling it a savings.
STEP TWO
We shop the same limits
We run your record across our carriers and show you the difference in writing. No credit check, and every driving record is welcome. If United already has you at the better price, we say so.
STEP THREE
We start you before you cancel
Your new policy goes active first, and we file any SR-22 electronically so your record never shows a gap. Then you cancel the old policy and the carrier refunds your unused premium.
You are not locked in. Auto insurance is not a lease. You can change carriers in the middle of a term, any day of the week, and the money you already paid for coverage you will not use comes back to you.
SR-22 and high-risk drivers
Most drivers comparing these two are dealing with something specific: a court-ordered SR-22, a suspended or revoked license, a DUI, a lapse in coverage, or a string of tickets that sent the premium through the roof. Both companies write these policies. What matters is the turnaround, and the price you are left paying once the filing is behind you.
- SR-22 filings submitted electronically to the Illinois Secretary of State — often the same day you call.
- Suspended, revoked, out-of-state or no license? None of that automatically disqualifies you, and we know which carriers price it reasonably.
- Non-owner SR-22 available if you need a filing but do not own a vehicle.
- Rideshare drivers — Uber and Lyft coverage handled without the guesswork.
- No credit check, and your documents and ID card are emailed to you as soon as you are covered.
- Tickets, accidents and lapses get re-shopped as they age off your record. Your rate should not be frozen at your worst year.
More than the minimum, if you want it
A switch is a good moment to look at what else is riding on one bill. Alongside auto, Accurate writes motorcycle, renters, homeowner’s and life coverage, and our I-Help Motor Club adds 24-hour roadside and travel service. If you have been carrying state-minimum liability because that is all anyone offered you, ask what raising your limits actually costs. On a lot of policies the answer is surprisingly little.

Frequently asked questions
Is Accurate Auto Insurance the same company as United Auto Insurance?
No. Accurate Auto Insurance and United Auto Insurance are separate, unaffiliated companies. We are a direct competitor, and this page is published so Illinois drivers can compare the two before buying.
Are Eagle Insurance and Great Northern Insurance the same as United Auto Insurance?
According to United’s own About page, yes — the Eagle Insurance and Great Northern Insurance storefronts are listed among United Auto Insurance’s locations. Worth knowing if you were planning to get a “second opinion” by walking into one of them. A second quote from the same family is not really a second quote.
Can Accurate Auto Insurance beat my United Auto Insurance rate?
Often, yes — but not always, and we will not pretend otherwise. United quotes its own product; as an independent agency, we shop your record across a network of carriers and take the best price we find. That structural difference tends to matter most on non-standard records, where carriers disagree sharply about pricing. Send us your declarations page and we will quote identical limits. If United already has you at the better price for the same coverage, we will say so.
Can I switch from United Auto Insurance in the middle of my policy term?
Yes. Auto insurance is not locked to a term the way a lease is. You can change carriers at any time, and the previous carrier refunds unused premium. We start your new policy first so you are never uninsured, which matters especially if you carry an SR-22.
Will switching create a gap in my SR-22?
Not if it is handled in the right order. We bind your new policy and file the SR-22 electronically with the Illinois Secretary of State before you cancel the old one. Cancel first and you risk a lapse, which can restart your filing period — so let us sequence it.
Do I get my money back from my old policy?
Yes. Once you cancel, the carrier refunds premium you paid for coverage you will not use. The refund comes from the carrier, not the agency, and it is prorated to your cancellation date.
Is there a United Auto Insurance office near Rockford, Peoria, Elgin or Joliet?
Not according to their published locations. United serves Chicago, Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Accurate Auto Insurance has offices in Rockford, Peoria, Elgin and Joliet, plus Oak Brook, South Holland, Oak Lawn and Chicago — see all Accurate locations.
Do I have to visit an office to switch?
No. You can get quoted, sign and pay by phone or online, and receive proof of insurance electronically. If you would rather sit down with someone, our eight Illinois offices are open six days a week.
